Review: Abandon by Meg Cabot

Bookish Details:
Series: Abandon Trilogy #1
Pages: 296 (Paperback)
Publisher: Point
Release Date: 26th April 2011

Goodreads Summary:

Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can't help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she's never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.

But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.

Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately he wants her back. She knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away... especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.

But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld
.

My Review:
Pierce knows what its like to die. When she was fifteen, Pierce drowned in a swimming pool and ended up in the place that still haunts her, the Underworld. In a new town with a fresh start, will her past catch up to her?

I've loved reading Meg Cabot's books for years so I was pretty sure I was going to love Abandon and I wasn't wrong. I loved the dark re-telling of The Myth of Persephone, and I really liked the story going from Pierce's present to her past.

The relationship between Pierce and John is quite dark and I liked that throughout the book you are kept guessing as to what has gone on between them in the past.

I can't wait for the sequel due out next year! Lovers of fantasy/romance novels will love this, as will fans of Meg.

Review: Beautiful Malice by Rebecca James

Bookish Details:
Pages: 272 Hardcover
Publisher:
Bantam
Release Date: First pub May 1st 2010, this edition July 13th 2010

Goodreads Summary:
Who is Katherine Patterson? It is a question she hopes no one can answer. To erase her past, Katherine has moved to a new city, enrolled in a new school, and even changed her name. She’s done the next best thing to disappearing altogether. Now, wary and alone, she seeks nothing more than anonymity. What she finds instead is the last thing she expected: a friend.

Even more unlikely, Katherine’s new friend is the most popular and magnetic girl in school. Extroverted, gorgeous,
flirtatious, and unpredictable, she is everything that Katherine is not and doesn’t want to be: the center of attention. Yet Alice’s enthusiasm is infectious, her candor sometimes unsettling, and Katherine, in spite of her guarded caution, finds herself drawn into Alice’s private circle.

But Alice has secrets, too—darker than anyone can begin to imagine. And when she lets her guard down at last, Katherine discovers the darkest of them all. For there will be no escaping the past for Katherine Patterson—only a descent into a trap far more sinister . . . and infinitely more seductive.

My Review:
I loved all the twists and turns in this book. I was completely drawn into Katherine's story and I was kept guessing about her past throughout.

The story is, at times, heartbreaking and told exceptionally well. There are some tough issues to tackle and Rebecca managed to write it perfectly.

This is a story that both adults and teens alike will enjoy but be warned, it's not a fun story to read.

Review: I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You - Ally Carter

Bookish Details:
Series: Gallagher Girls #1
Pages: 309 Paperback
Publisher: Orchard Books (UK) Hyperion (US)
Release Date: 25th April 2006

Goodreads Summary:
Cammie Morgan is a student at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, a fairly typical all-girls school-that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class. The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses but it's really a school for spies. Even though Cammie is fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways, she has no idea what to do when she meets an ordinary boy who thinks she's an ordinary girl. Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, or track him through town with the skill of a real "pavement artist"-but can she maneuver a relationship with someone who can never know the truth about her?

Cammie Morgan may be an elite spy-in-training, but in her sophomore year, she's on her most dangerous mission-falling in love.

My Review:
This is the first book in the Gallagher G
irls Series by Ally Carter. Its an action packed novel that's filled with humour from the start. It has a bit of everything really, there's action, adventure and even a little bit of romance.

I loved the friendship between the girls in the story and their trips outside the academy really made me laugh. If you're looking for a fun read then this is perfect.

I have a feeling that this series is just going to keep getting better and better.
