Review: New Revelations by Heather Topham Wood

Bookish Details:
Series: Second Sight #2
Publisher: CreateSpace
Release Date: 9th October 2012

Goodreads Synopsis:
Life should’ve been perfect. Kate Edwards had won the heart of police detective Jared Corbett and was coming to terms with her psychic ability. Things were blissful—until the day she met Declan Brayden.

Declan also has psychic visions and wants to work alongside Kate. Kate doesn’t trust the damaged and arrogant seer, but she knows combining their abilities would allow her to help more people. This becomes vital when visions of a missing fitness instructor turn into a race against time to save the girl’s life.

My Review:

New Revelations picks up shortly after the end of First Visions. It starts seemingly happy and we get to see Kate and Jared being together. But, of course, it's not long before Kate's world is turning upside down once again.

Kate meets fellow psychic, Declan, who is keen to work with her. Although her first instinct is to avoid him and his offer of help, a case on a missing young boy soon changes her mind and she goes to Declan for help. After seeing how he can help her, she begins to trust him more, but when he tells her that he's seen a vision of the future, she begins to questions her psychic abilities and wonder if Declan is lying to her.

Declan was a great addition to the series because he adds a bit of drama and he proves quite a match for Kate and her attitude. However, I was instantly concerned for Kate and Jared's relationship because it is clear from the start that Declan is interested in Kate and I love Jared!

The plot for New Revelations is fantastic, especially towards the end. I was reading well into the night because I couldn't put the book down when it got to the last few chapters. The ending may or may not have broken my heart a little bit, though!

I love everything about this series and I'm really excited to see where the story goes next - it's one hell of a cliffhanger you left there, Heather!

Why I'm excited about 2013!

Hey guys, Happy New Year!

2013 is finally here and there's plenty happening this year. So, what books are you all looking forward to reading most this year? Here's my personal list of books that I can't wait to get my hands on!

10. Focus (The Crescent Chronicles #2) by Alyssa Rose Ivy
Release Date: January 31st 2013

I adored book one (Flight) in this fabulous trilogy so i'm super excited to see what lies ahead in Focus!

9. The Elite (The Selection #2) by Kiera Cass
Release Date: April 23rd 2013

The Selection was good but it didn't totally blow me away. However i'm excited to read book to and i'm hoping we get to see America be a bit more kick-ass. I think we'll get a bit more action in this one!

8. Out of The Easy by Ruta Sepetys
Release Date: February 12th 2013

I completely fell in love with Ruta's first novel, Between Shades of Gray, so i'm really excited to read this book. Her writing style is perfect so I know i'm not going to be disappointed! The fact that this book is set in New Orleans during the 1950s definitely makes it sound more interesting.

Release Date: February 5th 2013

I'm loving the Heist Society series at the moment, not quite as much as The Gallagher Girls, but I am excited to see what happens next for Kat and Hale. Can we also just take a moment to appreciate how utterly gorgeous the covers always are for this series??

Release Date: February 26th 2013

The first book in this series totally won me over. The characters are fantastic and the setting is fabulous. The plot in book one was a brilliant mystery so i'm hoping that the plot in book two is just as awesome. I also love the narration of the story from Rory, she is a great protagonist!

5. Awaken by Meg Cabot
Expected Release Date: May 2013

Meg Cabot is my favourite author and whilst I don't think the Abandon Trilogy has quite lived up to her other series, i've really enjoyed reading the story of Pierce and John. I can't wait to see how the trilogy ends in Awake, especially after the ending of Underworld!

4. The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen
Release Date: June 4th 2013

There has not been one book by Sarah Dessen that I haven't liked so i'm really looking forward to The Moon and More! I'm hoping it will be on This Lullaby levels, since that's one of my all time favourite reads. Sarah Dessen is the perfect 'summer' author in my opinion.

3. Requiem (Delirium #3) by Lauren Oliver
Release Date: March 5th 2013

This is a fantastic series that I love. I love the characters, the plot, everything! It's going to be bittersweet to say goodbye to this series but I can't wait to see how it all ends!

2. Prodigy (Legend #2) by Marie Lu
Release Date: January 29th 2013

I am pathetically excited about Prodigy! I adored Legend - June and Day are two of my favourite book characters. The writing in Legend is so awesome and it was one of the best dystopian novels i've read (which is a pretty big deal considering how many there are out there these days!) so I can't wait to get started on book 2.

So what book am I looking forward to the most this year??

Release Date: March 19th 2013

Oh boy, oh boy. I really think that i'm going to have to take a week off to recover from this one! The last book in The Infernal Devices Trilogy lands in March and i'm pretty sure it's going to break my heart! This series has been amazing from the very start and i'm excited yet very anxious to see how it all ends - i'm definitely going to need the tissues for this one!

Can we just take a moment to talk about all the book-to-film adaptations we have coming out this year? Warm Bodies, Beautiful Creatures, The Host and, of course, City of Bones. Personally, i'm more excited for City of Bones because The Mortal Instruments is hands down one of my favourite series and I just can't wait to see it come to life on screen!

So what book are you looking forward to most this year? And what about the film adaptations? Let me know!
